Join us for a virtual wander round the hall and part of the grounds where you will spend the day at Songwriters’ House.
Chalkwell Hall is a Georgian house sitting within the much loved grounds of Chalkwell Park. A Grade II listed building, it was built by George Mason in 1830 and at the time it was a farmhouse on a large estate. The trees lining the drive (now the avenue from the house to the London Road) were planted the same year. The hall has magnificent views of the Park and across the Thames Estuary to Kent.
We are allowed to use this beautiful building by association with Metal, Southend’s arts organisation who aim to help build stronger, healthier and happier communities, through art, culture and creativity. Since renovating the building in 2007, Metal Southend have hosted hundreds of artists-in-residence, public events, workshops, classes and creative community socials and programmes.

With a signature sound encompassing elements as diverse as folk and musical theatre, Harriet is Teesside’s answer to the likes of Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell; a multi-instrumentalist bringing a mix of piano, cello, guitar and crystalline folk vocals to her unique songwriting.
Harriet is a much sought-after session player and collaborator and has been cellist for Mercury Prize nominated John Bramwell (I Am Kloot) for a number of years, as well as many North East artists such as Amelia Coburn, Tom Joshua, Nel Unlit, and Elaine Palmer. Harriet is a classically trained pianist and cellist, as well as having a background in choral singing, and the influence of this can be heard in the lushness of her songwriting and crisp vocal style.
Harriet has provided piano and cello tuition, both privately and in an award-winning school music department for many years, as well as having lead rehearsals for choirs and orchestras.
